Hi, last week i had two nice flights with the swift. Wednesday, 3. august 230 km from Porta Westfalica (EDVY) to Singhofen (EDSIN). First 30 km to Bielefeld took 1,5h so i decided to start the engine and flew powered to Soest (50km), beginning of Sauerland. The base got up to 2500m with >2,5 m/s integrated. So the next 150 km were fine and fast 🤗😎. Total flight time 5:52. Had a nice evening with the guys of DVLL with beer and barbecue. Nice night in tent. Next day back to Porta via Koblenz (260 km). Cloudbase 3000m, but the last 200m the thermal went down from 3.5-5 m/s to only 1.5 m/s, so i got up to 3000m only once. From Moehnesee to Porta (90km) there was no thermal due to a cloud shielding, so i had to use the engine again. Two very nice days! www.dropbox.com/sh/dwaor5wypikovlw/AABIydj1Zb-7JL3qJipWGlGUa?dl=0

Hi Friwi,
I'm in Europe and will be heading to my cousin's house in Loehne on 16/8/22.
Do you live nearby?
Regards, Phil

Hello Friwi,
Nice flights.
Don't forget to be ready to land in a field if there is a problem with your engine. Then pay always attention where you fly and at which altitude. In the first years, I used a lot my engine because I was totally confident to it. But after 10 years, it already is my third engine.... and I totally fly differently now.
Regards and have good flights and fun
Christian

Hi Christian,
For sure, as an "old" glider pilot, i switch the engine off as soon as possible! With a lot of outlandings with gliders (i think more than 50), in low altitude, i have allways a field in sight. On the flight to Singhofen, there was one situation, i started the engine for 2 minutes in 500m GND, because it was the decision height for a glide into next valley with fields - I am too old for stress😉. Without the 50km with Motor, i would not have been able to reach Singhofen in time, because the cruising speed in thermal was too bad in that area (25km/h headwind and bad thermals).
Hope to fly with You sometimes Friwi
PS: todays flights were with 100% enginetime (with my wife in a FK9 to Baltrum for a beachday😎)

Hi Friwi,
I also often outlanded when I flew with big gliders because I had no engine. But When I began with the Swift Light PAS, it was the first time I used an engine and it was for me THE SECURITY. I don't know why I thought that and sometimes, I flew above forest and other places without a maximum of securitY. Fortunately, when the engine broke, I always was in security above an airfield or not far. Now, I fly again with the same security than when I flew without engine.
I fly above flat land and I don't leave the airfield for a cross with a wind above 20 km/hr. As you say, it takes too much time to fly distances with a good speed. Now, if the cloud ceiling is more than 2000/2500 m, there are more possibilities... The same with blue thermals. With that low glide ratio, there is less possibility to fly long distances. But I already flew more than 100 km in blue thermics.
Regards
Christian
