After a lot of work, end of June I had my first longer e-SWIFT flight. By now, I had 6 flights, 2 with more than 3 hours. The new seat is comfortable and the new instrument panel offers a clear arrangement and better sight forward. To taxi was a challenge, take off is easy and feeling the thermals is quite different to what I know from all gliders I've ever flown. But the landings, I'll have to learn better... Here some photos

Who owned the e-Swift before you?

Hello Lukas,
Congratulations for these first flights. I'm surpised by your remark about the thermics : I'm also coming from the world of big gliders and it is the same principle for the thermics. The only problem is to find the best place of the thermics because the Swift moves rapidly due to the low inertia. For the rest, it goes up quicker than all other gliders....and I fly with a thermic engine. It means that my Swift is heavier. For the round out, try to stay horizontally with a little bit, but very little bit nose up....and wait that the speed decreases. The Swift lands by itself. If the two wheels touch together, it is the best landing you can do. Normally, the rear wheel touches first and the front wheel follows afterwards. Also hold your speed in the final (more than 65 km/hr). So you will have more control and the round out will be better. What is for some a surprise for the pilots coming from the big gliders is the efficiency of the spoilers. It is bad. So you have to mix the speed, the spoilers and the flaps and eventually the two winglets together.
Regards and have fun
Christian

Thanks, Christian, i'll try next flight. Last flight I had very turbulent conditions. Hot and blue, wind 20-30 km/h. I think, with my Libelle, these conditions could have caused an outlanding. But the electric helper in my SWIFT lead me home :-) Phil - my SWIFT is from Josef Stellbauer. That's why it's name is Josef, now. In memoriam... It's no.78 from 2002, converted to electric in 2015. No spoilers.

Second E-SWIFT season in Oppenheim. It started late due to Corona, but in Rheinland-Pfalz, we could be lucky, to be under the first pilots who could fly at all. The winter was the time for a lot of improvements and repairs: - SWIFT was at Aeriane for check and small repairs and replacements - airbrake installation - propeller blade bearings - bushings by Geiger - elimination of avionionics battery, replaced by DC-converter (Geiger) - new tear drop bubble in the right side window (self made) - new rocket for rescue system (Junkers Profly) - new mounting and position for rocket - parachute repacked - combi pipe for Venturi & dynamic pressure - Bräuniger 5030 overhauled - new battery & housing (Kothe, Weilheim) - armrest cushions - new protective covers for winglets - some repairs at the trailer As rigging the SWIFT takes about one hour, I'm happy about any movement, I don't have to do... The elimination of the 12V Battery is an improvement of handling and weight. The combi pipe is an improvement of handling. But the very best improvement are the airbrakes. Landing is easy now and safe! And I can escape from strong thermals, before they are sucking me in the clouds... Thanks to Jacques who gave me that advice.

Beautiful work Luki. Send us beautiful pictures of yours flights because we are in confinement for a long time again and the borders are closed too (My Swift is in France and I live in Belgium ) For the airbrakes, it is a super system that you can use at VNE without problem. Don't use the flaps above 80 km/hr. Regards and fly safe Christian
