Hello Everybody, I discovered 2 days ago some important information on the Aeriane facebook page of Stephen Morris : a new Swift is born. Thanks to Michel Paté that let me know the information today too ------------------------------------------------------ Text of Stephen J.Morris :
Introducing the Swift3!
The product of a 2.5 year collaboration with Aeriane in Belgium, this is the latest evolution of the Swift glider that offers 30% more performance over the Swift Light. The wingspan and aspect ratio are increased (14m span, 17 AR) and all the airfoils have been redesigned for greater lift and increased laminar flow. The estimated L/D for the glider version is 35:1 and we have measured L/D > 30:1 on the electric version. The entire wing shape is changed and the fuselage shape will change soon to an optimized version. The first prototype is flown with electric power for self launching and Manfred Ruhmer put on a great airshow in the Swift 3 today at the Coupe Icare event in St. Hilaire France. He was kind enough to put the Swift3 vertical so I can show you the new planform clearly 🙂 --------------------------------------------------------
When I will have more information, I will let you know. Regards Christian

Peter,
All the info are coming at that moment from the Aeriane facebook page of Stephen J. Morris. There are some video's too taken during the Coupe Icare in France. Nothing else until now.
Regards
Christian

Just a guy who has been quietly following the Swift since its beginings. Time to get more familiar.

Here's a little more info copied from a post at the Facebook 'Aériane Swift Ultralight Sailplane' group. Post dated 18 Sept 21 New Swift 3, different redesigned fuselage to follow. From designer Stephen Morris: "Swift 3 has 1 meter more span, less wing area, and all new airfoils with increased laminar flow and more lift capability. There are also other changes to the sweep, taper, twist and control surface geometry. That is how we were able to increase the L/D from 27:1 to 35:1.
The new airfoil was developed using Xfoil inverse design methods and an iteration on prescribed pressure distributions. It has higher thickness percentage than the original Swift airfoil but with the smaller chord the absolute thickness is lower in some regions. The pressure recovery is not as steep as the original and the laminar run has been increased. The lift capability is insensitive to rain and bugs (already flight tested in rain) and the pitch moment is low and slightly negative (nose down). Sweep and twist provide the trim moment just like all Swift style designs.
The Swift 3 has been flight tested to 100 mph without any flutter or other issues. The Vne speed is around 93 mph."

Hello everybody, I had a short contact with Vincent Piret and the last news about the Swift 3 are : - The Swift 3 is a prototype and is not finished yet . There is again a big work to realize, especially on the fuselage. - You can find the last information published by Jacques Bott on the site of ADPUL, www.ultralight-glider.fr/fr/coupe-icare-2021/ and on his own site vzmax.fr/nouveau-le-swift-3/Regards Christian
